The Casual Martial Artist 15: Respect and Hierarchy in Martial Arts

Many traditional martial arts are well known for having extensive lists of rules and etiquette that must be followed in the dojo. We bow before and after class, we are to respect those of higher rank, and we call our instructors sir, ma'am, or sensei. But is this a good or bad thing? Al and Marcus discuss some of their thoughts and experiences on respect and hierarchry in the martial arts.

With April Fool's Day fast approaching Al and Marcus discuss some of the many urban legends associated with martial arts. We discuss things like registering your hands as deadly weapons, the death touch, and the origin of the black belt.

We also speculate whether a monk in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons First Edition could kill Tiamat with a quivering palm and if Venger's magic could protect him from firearms.
