The Casual Martial Artist 11: Martial Art Urban Legends

March 28, 2019 @ 1:04 am

With April Fool's Day fast approaching Al and Marcus discuss some of the many urban legends associated with martial arts. We discuss things like registering your hands as deadly weapons, the death touch, and the origin of the black belt.

We also speculate whether a monk in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons First Edition could kill Tiamat with a quivering palm and if Venger's magic could protect him from firearms.

Geekery in General 229: Nintendo Player’s Guide

March 19, 2019 @ 1:54 am

Remember when the 8-bit NES was king? And if you knew all the secrets and tricks you were the coolest kid on the schoolyard? Al remembers those days. Well, he doesn't ever remember being the coolest kid on the schoolyard but he does remember when knowing a cheat code or how to beat that annoying boss on level 5 could win you a few friends. In this episode Al reviews the Nintendo Player's Guide, a big black book with all sorts of useful information.

NOTE: This episode was completely off the cuff and unplanned. I mention the book being a pack in with some of the Nintendo sets. I might be wrong on that.
